We are getting an early Summer here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mostly sunny skies, high humidity and temperatures in the mid 80’s. No complaints from me.  I love the heat. railroad hike (13 of 17)

I got home from work a little early to enjoy the nice weather and was delighted  to see a number of beautiful birds in my yard and at the bird feeders. First noticed a red-bellied woodpecker in one of my oak trees, pecking away at the bark trying to get at insects. red-bellied woodpecker (1 of 1)

At the feeder I noticed one of the most beautiful and exotic birds that visits my feeders. I don’t see them every year and I’m hoping the one I saw, an indigo bunting is nesting in the area. It is such a beautiful creature.  He is shown in the heading on this page above. (On you can see more photos of these birds by clicking the red highlighted words. They will take you to the gallery with more photos)

Also saw a cardinal , some downy woodpeckers, sparrows, nuthatches and goldfinches at the feeders.

Spent too cardinal (1 of 1)much time watching the birds so only time for a short hike out my local railroad tracks. One of my favorite places to hike. Been hiking out there since I was in third grade so many memories on those tracks. Loved the clouds floating in the humid sky. The warm weather has the trees and plants bursting forth with new growth., I saw some lady slipper orchids getting ready to set their delicate flowers. My dad called the “duck flowers”  The nesting geese and ducks were in the wetlands, until I scared them away. And also ra n into a snake. I love to photograph snakes but he didn’t stay around for me to get a lot of photographs. Didn’t go far but still so much to see if you keep your eyes peeled. Another great day in Northeastern Pennsylvania.railroad hike snake 2 (1 of 1)
